iTide: A Quick FAQ
It’s been 10 days since iTide launched on the app store, and I’ve received a handful of questions and comments about the app. I wanted to take a few moments and hit on a few of them, both to let you know I am listening, and that this is really just the beginning of the application.
Q: Where are the 2009 Signees?
I followed signing day closely, and I’m as eager to add them as folks are to see them added…but I’m holding off on a big Roster update until closer to A-day, and we can see how this season is going to shape up. I’ll also take that opportunity to remove our seniors and others who left after the 2008 season.
Q: I’d really like to see a news feed added with Alabama related info!
This is definitely on my radar. I’ve put some energy into it, but really need to put in more. At worst, I’d like to some recognition for the great sites that feed us the Bama knowledge every day, even if it’s just a link to their respective sites.
Q: How about more information on each player, coach, and opponent?
This is a big one for me personally; earlier iterations of the program had drill-downs on the player with height, weight, hometown, and more. I opted out of that detail of information in favor of interface, but it’s something I’d like to get added back.
Q: Will you start charging for iTide?
No. iTide, like love, will always be free.
Q: Will you create other Tide Sports apps? Baseball, Softball, Basketball?
Possibly. I have a few other ideas in the pipeline, but that is something I’d like to get involved with.
Q: Have you considered building this for other teams?
Yes, I’ve considered taking my codebase and retrofitting it for other teams. I am thinking of hitting some of the larger teams first, and gauging their response. The kicker there is that I’m going to need to charge for future applications. I’ve got a few goals that I’d like to hit before making this next step, but I believe there is potential for this type of tool. Plus, there are bills to pay involved with this endeavor, so recouping some of that is something I’m totally interested in.
Q: Do you do this alone?
Yes. This combines my 2 favorite hobbies — software coding and Alabama football.
Q: Can I promote this on my forum/site/blog?
Feel free. I’m working to update the iTide landing app to at least get it in-line with iTunes, but feel free to send traffic either here or directly to the app in iTunes.
Q: I have an idea for an app — can you build it for me?
Tricky one there. I’m not really looking for work in that arena, but if you have rockin idea, send it on and I’ll look it over…
Q: Will you make “X” changes to the iTide app?
I’m open to suggestions, certainly well thought out ones. I never say never.
Q: Can I contact you “offline”?
Sure. My email address is jdenmark+nospam@gmail.com (remove the +nospam). If you are local to Tuscaloosa, I’m out eating lunch nearly every week day, and would love to hang out talking shop.
Sincerely, thank you to all those who have downloaded the app, reviewed it, and enjoyed it. In the next few days I’ll post a download count update. Also, I’ve got an update to the app ready to go, just needs about one more day of polish and then it’s on to Apple for approval. I’ll keep everyone posted.

Just wanted to say thanks for the iTide app! You did an absolutely fantastic job with the interface and content! I’ve been showing this thing off to all of my friends and family and they are extremely jealous that they do not have one for their CFB team
One thing you may want to do is hook up with AL.com, tidesports.com (Tuscaloosa news), BamaOnline, or another news source that you could stream the latest Alabama football news… maybe throw an add in the app in return for their services. Just an idea…
Thanks again and Roll Tide!!!
